Forums, blogs and communities create a kind of collective memory for shoppers. Having a tracking number that works on common sites is very convenient. I try to balance my budget between basic everyday items and a few special pieces.
If anyone is interested in real user experiences, I sometimes write short notes about the shops I test.

Each material has advantages and disadvantages depending on season and activity. If they ignore basic questions or reply with copy pasted text, I become suspicious. If a website gives a detailed guide for measurements, I feel more confident when ordering. I also think about how easy it is to track a parcel once it ships. I think this is one of the few real advantages we have compared to shopping blindly. If they reply politely and give detailed answers, I feel more relaxed.
Just sharing my personal feedback.
